WORKBOOK
CONSIDERATIONS:
- It is imperative to read the chapter(s) in “Acronyms Building Character” before experiencing the thought provoking chapter(s) in the workbook. (You probably agree that it is best to read the drivers manual before your first experience driving a vehicle.)
- The book, in combination with the workbook, is a comprehensive character building course. Completing the chapters in numerical order will maximize understanding and retention.
- For organizational applications consider experiencing the “I CARE about Teamwork” module...Integrity, Communication, Attitude, Respect, Empowerment, and Teamwork. Then complete the remaining chapters in the order that best suits your needs.
- Only the responses for questions that have absolute answers are listed.
- If the answer to the question is not listed, the answer is strictly your opinion.
- After completing the exercises of words and comparative statements you can possibly list the words and statements in your “top five list”, “top ten list”, “order of importance list”, etc.
- The “Goals Forms” are included in each chapter. The forms are designed to help you evaluate your progress in attaining your designated goals.
- Make certain to fill in the blanks with your words and statements at the conclusion of the listings of words and statements.
- Select and potentially memorize the acronyms that will best help you recall the concepts in the lessons.
- Consider listing your goals on the three blank pages in the back of the work book for a quick reference for monitoring your progress.
GROUP SETTINGS:
The exercises can be completed by individuals or by teams.
Each team can develop their identity by selecting an acronym from the book for their team moniker or better yet develop an original acronym for their team name. As an example, while I was serving as a school district administrator we labeled our team the WIMMPS, which stood for Workers In Mid-Management Positions!
Each team can develop their best answers to the workbook responses.
After team collaborations, the teams can share their responses with the other participants. Role playing is a very effective method of delivering segments of the material. Possibly divide the group into dyads; the pairs can take turns reciting the statements from the comparative lists. The audience can select the most appropriate statements by pointing, voicing their opinions or balloting.
The puzzles can be used as a very effective method of ending group experiences. The first group to complete both puzzles and uncover the hidden message in the word search puzzle can be designated as the winning team. A judge or panel of judges might honor the teams’ responses based on a variety of classifications.
You might consider, but you certainly are not limited to, awards recognizing…
The best example of…
- the fastest team
- the most improved team
- a serious answer
- a unique answer
- a humorous answer
- a team name
- a new acronym
- using an acronym
- helping the entire group
- a team needing entirely too much help
HELPFUL HINTS:
- The multiple choice questions are all correct if there are two statements that say “all of the above.”
- The multiple choice questions are all incorrect if there are two statements that say “none of the above”.
- A very effective method of discovering “what would others say…” is simply to ask acquaintances to complete those sections for you.
- Developing answer sheets that remain separate from the workbook will allow you to complete the exercises several times and compare answers.
- The introspective journey that you take through this process can potentially display a need for you to seek additional help in resolving issues that may be illuminated.
